Q: How can I make my 2003 Honda Civic faster?
I have a Automatic 2003 Honda civic Lx. How can I make it faster and what are the cheapest ways to do it. I need to add more horsepower to this car because this car is just way too slow. Give me several options.

A: Vahe, There are a few approaches to answer your question. You asked for the cheapest, which is different than the best bang for the buck. The best bang for the buck approach is to implement a turbo or supercharger kit, like those from Greddy and others. If you know what you are doing, you could even create your own kit, though you run a zero percent chance of it being smog legal. The cheapest way to make your car go faster is to upgrade it component by component. This is the route most choose, because it requires investments over time. My first recommendation is all of the obvious stuff: Reduce the weight in the car by removing unnecessary items and stripping the interior. Find some used rims that are light too. If you search for used parts online, you should be able to find some 15x7s that are around 10-11 lbs. Its a cheap upgrade. My second recommendation is to get a Kpro. Yeah, its $1000, but you arent going to be able to take advantage of engine modifications without it (like all of those cold air intakes, headers, and other engine mods).Be sure you get it tuned, or do the datalogging yourself and tune it. Third, before you consider doing drastic things with the motor, pick up a header and cold air intake. It will reduce the weight of the intake parts, allow the engine to breath easier, and will lean out the fuel to air mixture, which you will adjust with the Kpro. Anything beyond this will require some serious modification... A good bang for the buck upgrade at this point would be to change the head to an EP3 A2 head. It breaths a lot better and can improve power quite a bit.

Q: Do I need a Honda Care Extended Warranty on a 2003 Civic?
I just bought a pre-owned 2003 Honda Civic which has a mileage of about 89400 miles on it. I was sort of persuaded by the dealer to buy the HondaCare extended warranty for 2 years or 24000 miles, at a cost of $1860 and deductible $100. However, when I got the contract, there are so many exclusions. I am now wondering whether I should cancel the contract as I am not sure whether it would be worthwhile. Can you advise? Are there better ones?

A: Oh yeah, you got screwed. The chances of your Honda having problems equaling $1860 in the next 24k miles is almost nil. Even if your engine goes, rebuild costs less than $1500. Cancel it ASAP! I believe Honda allows you to cancel within a specific time period. You do not need any extended warranty on a Honda. They can easily go 200k miles without a problem, as long as you do regular maintenance and replace the timing belt & water pump every 90k miles.

Hey! I have a red 2003 Honda Civic coupe LX. I was thinking about adding a spoiler on it, and maybe intake? (my brother's idea). What other things look good on a Honda? (please include around how much it'd cost) or do they look stupid with modifications? Thanks.

I have a 2003 Honda Civic Ex and I'm looking to get a replace my stock exhaust to an after market one and I been asking around which one is better the HKS or Skunk2 but no one has given me a good answer.

A: Better make sure and weigh it first, might be so heavy all the car will do is sit there and rattle.

Q: How Does A 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid Work?
I have a 2003 Honda Civic hybrid and I just want some more information on when it is supposed to use battery versus gas.

A: At idle or really low speeds, the gas engine turns off and the electric motor comes on. When you take off or increase your speed, the electric motor turns the gas engine back on. If the battery charge is low, the gas engine will remain on.

Q: what is the best swap. I want to swap the 1300cc hybrid engine that is in my 2003 Honda civic. so which 2003 H?
what is the best swap. I want to swap the 1300cc hybrid engine that is in my 2003 Honda civic. so which 2003 Honda engine do i put in it.

A: This is one can of worms that you will pay dearly for due to the Hybrid technology that is in the car. Everything in the Hybrids are different as far as wiring than the regular Civic so that basically means a COMPLETE re-wire of the whole cars electrical system. You will EASILY spend $10,000-$20,000 swapping a motor in this car.

Q: Honda 2003 Civic Manual Shift Box change question?
I bought a used 2003 Honda Civic with Manual shift several months ago.. I've been driving with Dirty painted Gear BOX?? (rectangular plastic part surrounding shift) + painted shift (leather part)... How am I suppose to change this?? what's it called?? Is it possible to change on my own?

A: Yes, you can change this out yourself. Find one at a salvage yard that is the way you want it, and you'll have a shifter you like, that won't cost you much. To find out exactly how to change it, go to your local parts store and buy a "Chilton's" or "Haynes" manual for your model car, should cost you about $15. But it is well worth it, because it'll tell your how to diagnose and repair almost any problem you can have with your car...good luck!

Q: Is the 2001-2003 Honda Civic a reliable car? Does it have any major problems with an automatic transmission?
I was researching and i found that the 2001-2003 year ranges on the Honda Civics had some transmission problems. Is this true? Are there any owners who have these years on their Civics. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

A: no they r great. i dont have a 2001-2003 honda civic now, but i used to. it was a 2002 honda civic si. unfortunately one day it got stolen. i miss it cause it was my frist car n i really worked hard for it. anyways i bought it in the year of 2002 as soon as it came out. the transmission had no problems like most honda civics. i had it for 4 years n it was a great car n fast too. But now i have a 1997 Honda civic ex n it will never get stolen. the only problem that i had with my 2002 honda civic si was that it was shacking alot, but it was no biggie cause it was just the speed balance n it only cost 10 dollars to repair. most honda civics r great reliable cars. u shuld get one if u r gona. good luck

Q: Gas gauge only fills my 2003 Honda Civic to 9 gallons when at empty?
This began 3 weeks ago. What is needed to fix this, and how much should I expect mechanic's costs to be? Will I have to go to a Honda dealership or can a simple car mechanic do it? Also, is my car too new for this to be happening? I bought it in October 2003, and it only has 30,000 miles on it.

A: sounds like a sending unit problem .it a devise mounted in your fuel tank it measures the fuel level in the tank buy moving up when tank is full and down when empty and sends this info to the Gage in the car. The fuel tank must be remove from the car to do this repair. and any certified mechanic can make this repair. check and see if you have a extended warranty on this item.

Q: What is the easiest way to hardwire mp3 player to 2003 Honda Civic stock AM/FM/CD radio?
I don't have a cassette deck and am not a HUGE fan of the fm modulator's to play my mp3 player over hte radio, and don't want to replace my Civic's stock radio with an iPod ready one... so what is the easiest way to connect the two? I assume adding an audio auxillary input is a little more involved, so would just hardwiring a wire to come through the center console somewhere be easiest?

A: this is the best way to install the ipod to your honda radio http://www.oemautosound.com/pc-255-183-honda-to-ipod-interface-pa11-hon.aspx

Q: 2003 honda civic hybrid with 100000 mileage?
should I buy a 2003 honda civic hybrid with 100000 mileage? would you think the battery needs to be replaced? or it could last a lot longer?

A: The deep cycle batteries in hybrids are said to last between 150,000 to 200,000 miles before it can no longer be recharged to full capacity. You should inquire with Honda on where and how much new batteries could cost you. You should also check if the batteries are still under warranty. Good luck!
